Hi, I’m Remy Okada.
A one-person studio shipping production front-ends — marketing sites, web apps, and the kind of performance that converts.
I started Northbound after a decade shipping front-ends at product teams and agencies — long enough to learn that the difference between a good site and a great one is rarely the design file. It is the milliseconds. The way a page loads, the way a button feels, the way an interaction holds at 60fps on a three-year-old phone. Northbound is a deliberately small studio: you work directly with the person writing the code, on a fixed scope, with a performance budget we agree on up front and a clean handoff at the end. I build with React, Next.js, and TypeScript; I obsess over Core Web Vitals; and I ship.
Why work with a studio of one
No account managers, no hand-offs, no telephone game between the person you brief and the person who builds. You talk to me, I write the code, and the detail you discuss is the detail that ships. I take on a small number of projects at a time so yours gets real attention.
What you can count on
- Fixed scope and a written quote before any work begins.
- Weekly preview deploys — you see it grow.
- Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and reduced-motion support, by default.
- A clean handoff: documented code, in your repo, that you own.
